Posted by on

Root HTC One X : If you want to add new found powers to your HTC ONE X like giving it the ability to install or restore or backup the ROM or run rooted applications on it, then you would probably want to root your HTC One X mobile.

In case you do not want to lose the previously stored data and apps on your HTC One X phone, you can first go for a backup option using the Titanium Backup App. Similarly if you are not wanting to install custom ROMs, then you can go for the universal method instead by not unlocking the bootloader. The method stated below is the standard procedure for unlocked versions of the phone.

Here is a checklist before you start the rooting procedure for your HTC One X mobile:

  • Check for USB Debugging under Settings-Developer Options
  • Connect the HTC One X to your computer using the micro-USB cable.
  • Ensure that your device is only on the “charge only” mode.

Now after going to the Device manager, ensure that all correct drivers are installed on your system. You should be able to see icons like ”Android ADB interface “ and “My HTC”. If the driver installation has not been done your system then you might have to go for the simple driver installation step first, by downloading the appropriate drivers on your system and updating them. After that is done, you need to:

Download OneXRoot.zip and unzip.

Open the command prompt and type in the following commands- cd Downloads, cd OneXRoot, and adb devices. If you see a bunch of numbers and letters then you are ready to go the next step.

Next, go the browser and type in “htcdev.com” and after logging in click on “unblock Bootloader”.

Choose the option of “HTC OneX” or “All other supported devices”, whichever option you see. And then click on “Begin unblock Bootloader”.

Click on “yes “ and then on “Proceed to Unlock directories”

After scrolling down on this screen, click on proceed to step 5.

Scroll down again and click on proceed to step 8.

After this you will need to hold your volume down and power buttons for like 20 seconds till the device resets in the bootloader mode.

Choose the “fastboot” and hit on the power button. You should be able to see “fastboot usb”.

Go the command prompt and type “ fastboot oem get_identifier_token”.

Copy paste the code that appears on the prompt to your htcdev.com website.

You should get a message displaying “token submitted successfully”.

Go to your email and download the Unlock_code.bin file and copy it to the OneXRoot folder.

On the command prompt type “fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin.

After the phone goes to reboot mode type, fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.2.7-endeavoru.img.

Once the rebooting has been completed, connect the device as “disk drive “

Copy the CWN-SuperSU-v.0.8.7.zip in OneXRoot folder and go back in bootloader mode by holding power and volume button.

Choose “recovery” and hit the power button.

Now click on “install zip from sdcard “once it’s in recovery mode.

Choose CWN-SuperSU-v.0.87.zip and choose YES.

Once that’s done click on reboot.

You should now be able to see SuperSU app installed on the system, run this and update the SU binaries.

In these simple steps, you have successfully rooted your device and given the ability and power to perform much more varied tasks with new capabilities of restore, backup and installations.
